Cardinal Numbers:

o – Nol/ Kosong

Satu – 1

Dua – 2

Tiga – 3

Empat – 4

Lesson 2

SILAHKAN/ SILAKAN

The word silahkan or silakan is used when offering something such as a seat:

  • Silahkan duduk  - Have a seat

A drink or a meal:

  • Silahkan minum – Have a drink
  • Silahkan makan –  Please have yourself (for eating)

You can use the word silahkan for saying:

  • Silahkan masuk – Come in

When asking for help or a favor you can used the word “tolong”.  For instance:

  • Tolong bukakan pintu – Open the door, please
  • Tolong tutup pintu – Close the door, please
  • Tolong dengarkan saya – Listen to me, please
  • Tolong nyalakan AC                - Switch on the air conditioner, please
  • Tolong berikan laporannya dalam satu jam -  Hand me the report in an hour, please
  • Tolong pergi jauh dari saya – Go away from me please
  • Tolong tinggalkan kami sendiri – Leave us alone, please
  • Tolong ambilkan buku itu – Get me the book, please

Lessons in bahasa Indonesia is called Pelajaran. In this section you will learn Bahasa Indonesia related in real life situation.

Pelajaran I – Lesson I

Salam – Greetings

Greetings in Bahasa Indonesia usually start with the word ” Selamat” as you can see from the following examples:

Selamat pagi – Good morning

Selamat siang- Good afternoon

Selamat malam- Good evening

Selamat tidur- Good night (before sleeping)

There are also:

Selamat tinggal – Good bye

Selamat datang – Welcome

Selamat Idul Fitri – Happy Idul Fitri

Selamat ulang tahun – Happy birthday

Selamat makan- Happy eating

Selamat jalan- Farewell

or just ” Selamat” – Congratulation

but Bahasa Indonesia has also some other greetings without the word selamat. For instance:

Semoga beruntung / berhasil – Good luck

Semoga anda lulus ujian – Hopefully you pass the exam

Conversation:

A: Apa kabar Kent?

B: Baik. Kamu sendiri bagaimana?

A: Seperti biasa. Besok aku akan ujian Bahasa. Doakan aku yah.

B: OK. John, Semoga beruntung.

Translation:

A: How are you Kent?

B: Fine. How about you?

A: Just like usual. Tomorrow I will have Bahasa exam. Wish me luck, OK?

B: OK, John. Good luck.
